The 2015 growing season will be remembered for its early spring, consistently warm summer and equally fine weather that persisted into the fall harvest. Little or no pressure from Mother Nature and a bountiful crop made for good spirits and richly endowed wines that show an unprecedented core of fruit. Sparkling wines from this vintage are particularly fruity and expressive.

The 2020 growing season started in April with bud-break, the true herald of harvest. The spring was temperate, and the shoots grew at a modest pace, allowing the vines to reach a healthy height before the onset of bloom in June. Flowering occurred during a stretch of weather that included periods of scattered sunshine and light drizzly rain which resulted in smaller berries, meaning more skin components per berry volume of juice, which in turns means more potential for color and concentration. The wildfires that punctuated the 2020 vintage started in our region on Labor Day, putting a literal cloud over the holiday weekend. While this was a once in a lifetime weather event for many regions up and down the west coast, the impacts on wine were variable and dependent on many factors. We had the fortunate opportunity to make some delightful wines from the vintage, albeit in more limited quantities.

The 2018 growing season was another stunner in Oregon’s string of warm, sunny, and generous vintages. While it was warmer than the average growing season, there was a consistency in temperature with fewer peaks and valleys, leading to a balanced and stress-free harvest. The summer was nearly rain free and the dry conditions allowed us the luxury of picking for our sparkling wines at exactly the desired. times. This ensured the wines retained their aromatic interest and vibrant acidity, both of which are essential to wines destined for our sparkling program.
